The miner was operating a jackleg drill, drilling a lifter. A rock dislodged from the face, fell about four feet and struck the miner's hand which was on the d-ring of the drill. The rock's sharp edge caused a cut that required stitches.

Small rock came out of the back, striking the miner in the back. Miner did finish the shift, but sought medical attention the next day because of pain when the spot was touched. No pain otherwise. Skin not broken. No visible bruise. Clinic doctor limited the miner's mobility, pending an MRI to determine if undetected damage has occurred to the spine.

French Gulch (Nevada) Mining Corp · Fall from scaffolds, walkways, platforms

Two miners were installing rock bolts for ground support after scaling and bolting the back. As they were drilling a rock bolt hole a large slab of rock slid down from the hanging wall side breaking the timber supports, supporting the two miners. One miner fell 14' to a rock pile and was seriously hurt with broken ribs and collar bone, the other did not fall and was uninjured.
