The rock caused a laceration to his little finger that required sutures. The employee did not return to work on his next scheduled shift.
EE stated while he was installing roof support in the #4 entry he extended his left hand out to place a bolt on this wrench when a piece of draw rock approx 12"x12"x3-4" T fell striking his hand. When the rock contacted his hand it pushed it down toward the drill pot before he pulled it away striking his finger between the rock & pot. Chipped bone L ring finger. Medical injury.
EE stated while using slate bar to pry piece of rock from mine roof, a separate piece of rock came out of roof in front of slate bar. That piece of rock fell down bar toward EE's face. EE used left hand to block rock. Rock that struck EE's hand was approx. 3'x2'x3". EE was wearing metacarpal gloves. EE sought medical attention after his shift & was diagnosed w/bruise.
Employee stated he was walking the belt entry back to section from locking out the belt head when a piece of draw rock fell from the roof and struck him on the neck and back resulting in a strain of the neck and back. This incident became reportable as lost time injury on 5/20/14 due the employee missing 1 day as a result of the injury.
