Contract worker and co-workers were getting slack in order to make a splice in the decline belt. The belt grip came off and flew striking employee in back/rib cage area. Cause of this injury was body positioning and awareness. Compliance with rules/regs, PPE and mining systems not a factor. Miner proficiency may be a factor.
Employee was removing a chain from the scoop when the load shifted causing the chain to contact finger.
