Driller assistant was positioning a breakout wrench to break rod joints and inadvertently placed a thumb between the head/cap and piston rod, causing their thumb to get smashed in between the two when actuated. This resulted in a tuft fracture to the tip of thumb as well as a laceration to the thumb that required stitches.

Mechanic was removing a drain plug from the differential on 599 lube truck. When the plug came loose the wrench came down quickly causing the left pinky of the employee to strike the concrete floor.

While removing old lip on 346 shovel, employee was using a slip hammer when a piece of metal hit the employee in the groin.

Injured employee was disassembling metal tracks. While using a hammer to remove metal pins, a small metal piece of metal flew off the pin and hit the employee in the upper lip. The employee was wearing all face shields at the time. Employee did go to the local clinic and received 4 stitches. Employee was able to go back to work that afternoon and was released to full duty.

After lifting the hammer from the interchange, employee was setting the hammer down to lean on the daybed. Employee slid the hammer down left forearm and a shard of metal off the hammer inserted into left forearm requiring stitches.

Mechanic was removing a ripper tooth from a dozer. Employee struck ripper with a hammer to break it loose from the shank. When the hammer struck the ripper tooth, a small piece of metal struck the mechanic in the right leg below the knee, resulting in a foreign body that had to be removed by a doctor. Stitches were required.
