However, the operator thought he was signaled to go "forward", which tightened the cable, causing injured's hand to be pinched between the crusher and cable.

THE INJURED WAS USING A DIE GRINDER TO CUT A SOLENOID FREE FROM THE FRAME OF THE 1988 FORD MODEL CARGO 8000 FUEL TRUCK, APPLYING THE CHARGED GRINDER TO THE BOLTS OF THE MOUNTED SOLENOID, WHEN THE GRINDER "DUG IN" AND JUMPED, STRIKING THE BACK OF THE INJURED'S LEFT HAND BETWEEN THE THUMB AND INDEX FINGER RESULTING IN A 1 1/2 INCH LONG CUT.
