He was walking down the muck pile and stepped wrong. He did not even fall down.
He was taking a sample at the face of the Washington drift. It was not yet bolted. A slab fell from the back hitting his right shoulder, lower back, and left lower leg. Just strain and bruses.
The miner was bolting with a jack-leg when the steel caught. When it spun around he grabbed the machine and his thumb was pinched between the stops for the hammer and the leg. It cut and broke his thumb.
