Showing all 6EE was walking on the catwalk of highwall miner, when the front seal blew out on the fluid coupling below, causing flash burns to exposed skin of arms and face. Resulting in first and second degree burns.
EE was hitting a pin on the push beam with a sledge hammer. When he swung the hammer, he strained his lower back. This resulted in a muscle strain, and is being treated with physical therapy. There was no disc damage and a full recovery is expected with a return to work by the end of Dec 2009.
Employee was cutting a fallen tree that was in the way of surface operations. When cutting, the chainsaw kicked when the cut was through and struck him just above the left knee causing a 3" cut to the leg.
EE was welding an I Beam onto the highwall miner. As he was doing this, a piece of coal about the size of a football, fell from the highwall and struck EE in the back. He was transported by vehicle to St. Marys Hospital in Lafollette, TN. After x-rays, EE was diagnosed with a deep bruise to the back and no bones broken. EE did not start to lose time til 5/4/07.
