Employee was looking at 988 wheel loader for customer. Machine had electrical problems, Hood on machine was raised, employee was looking at wiring under the hood when hood fell, striking employee on the head, knocking their hard hat off, and striking their ear causing laceration on the ear.

On 5/29/25 an outside vendor sent a shop mechanic to inspect the wiring harness on loader CAT 9888-F. When the employee lifted the motor hood cover up to look inside, the suspension joint failed on the cover causing it to drop and strike employee's left ear.
