Showing all 5Shot was fired at 2:15 pm. Received a call at 2:45 pm stating that a rock had struck a car on HWY 23. The driver was struck in the hand by a shard of glass but did not require medical attention. WAS IMMEDIATELY REPORTED TO MSHA 6/14/2012
An accident occurred when a shot of 37 holes was detonated in the pit. The employee was properly contained inside a steel blast shelter at the time of the detonation. However, the blast shelter was improperly placed and rolled on its side following the detonation. The employee suffered 3 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a broken bone in his neck and on his left ear.
EE WAS ON OBSERVATION DECK WHEN SHOT IGNITED AND EE WAS STRUCK IN THE FACE WITH A ROCK.
EE WAS STRUCK ON THE LEFT ARM & SHOULDER BY A PIECE OF FLY ROCK WHICH LEFT THE BLAST AREA, RESULTING IN BRUISES, ABRASIONS & LACERATIONS WHICH NEEDED STITCHES. HE WAS IN THE EE PARKING LOT NEA R THE EE LUNCH ROOM WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURED.
