Showing all 5While attempting to free a frozen conveyor belt on a highwall miner car, employee pinched middle and ring fingers of right hand when he struck the belt with a 2" x 2" x 24" long piece of square tubing he was using as a hammer. Middle finger was bruised and ring finger was fractured.
Employee was helping another mechanic remove a transmission pump from an end dump truck. While removing bolts from the pump, the mechanic he was helping dropped a 1/2 inch rachet (slipped from his hand) and struck employee in the face. His face was lacerated by the tool.
Employee was chipping ice from the lid to the belt tensioner with a spud bar on the highwall miner launch, when his foot slipped, allowing the spud bar to contact the moving conveyor belt. The moving conveyor belt kicked the spud bar back at the employee, striking his left knee.
Employee stated that he was cleaning mud from a dozer track frame with spade shovel. He said he felt a pull, then some pain with some burning in his right front shoulder. Treatment did not begin until 1/15/08 after evaluation by doctor's MRI. Employee continues to work while undergoing some untrasound treatments for a shoulder strain. Employee did not miss any workdays.
