Employee was cutting a plastic band off of concrete block with a utility knife when it struck EE's left thigh causing a laceration. EE was treated at the ER where EE received two sutures and a full release with no restrictions to return EE's next shift.
The utility person was cutting the seal out of a 1-quart bottle of engine oil with a belt knife when they accidentally cut the end of their left thumb. 3 Stitches were required no work was missed.
Employee was injured while working on a header. EE was using a pipe wrench on a steamboat jack, when the force made the pipe wrench break loose from the jack and caused EE's arms to extend abruptly and hit EE's left arm and left shoulder on the header framing. Started missing work on 04/14/2026.
Employee was cutting a belt off of the blower motor on a roof bolter when the knife slipped causing a laceration of their left wrist. Employee was treated at the ER where they received four sutures and was given restriction of not bending their wrist for three days which prevented them from performing their normal duties.
Employee was assisting the mechanic making a car splice when the knife slipped causing EE to cut EE's left index finger. EE was treated at the ER where EE received 3 sutures and a full release with no restrictions to return EE's next shift.
Employee was using a hammer to smash a Burndy connector to splice a lifeline together, when they missed and struck their left index finger with the hammer. Employee was seen at the ER where x-rays revealed a fracture to the tip of the finger. Employee was given a full release with no restrictions to return their next shift.
Employee was helping unit mechanic make a car splice on shuttle car, when the utility knife slipped causing them to cut left index finger. Employee was seen by the mine nurse where they received 5 sutures and a full release. Returned to their normal job the same shift with no restrictions.
Employee was using a utility knife to cut down a piece of back up curtain and cut EE's left index finger. Received 4 sutures.
The Belt mechanic was in the bathhouse cleaning EE's belt knife when drying the blade of EE's knife the index finger on the right hand hit the blade rustling in 3 stitches. No work was missed.
While ratcheting a come along to pull the miner cat together the mechanic felt pain in right shoulder. No work was missed.
Brattice man was attempting to break a concrete block with a brattice hammer when EE struck EE's left hand below the thumb causing a laceration that required 5 sutures. No work was missed.
While cutting a piece of belt with a belt knife, the knife slipped coming in contact with the right thigh causing a laceration, received 4 sutures. No work was missed.
Employee was installing a bit into the miner head. Driving the bit in with a hammer a piece of carbide came off the bit embedding in the right arm below the bicep. No work was missed.
Employee was prying on a dust hose with a pinner steel. The steel became lodged, and as EE jerked it free, EE's right pinky finger was smashed between the steel and the coal rib. EE received three sutures and returned to work EE's next scheduled shift.
Employee was scattering rock dust out of a scoop bucket with a shovel. As EE went to sling the shovel of dust, EE hit the scoop bucket with the shovel causing the shovel to abruptly stop causing a torn bicep on the left arm. Started missing work on 4/3/2025
The roof bolter was attempting to cut a suction hose with a belt knife. Holding the hose in EE's left hand and cutting with the right, the knife came out of the hose and cut the left hand. Received 6 sutures, no work was missed.
While preparing the belt for a belt lay the belt mechanic was cutting the belt, when the knife slipped out of the belt and cut right leg just below the knee. Causing the belt mechanic to receive 10 staples, no work was missed.
Mechanic was cutting the outer jacket on the miner cable to make a splice, slipped and cut the index finger on EE's left hand. The cut required 6 stitches. No work was missed.
Employee was stripping the wires for a light on a roof bolter when the knife EE was using slipped causing EE to cut left pinky finger resulting in the employee receiving 4 sutures.
While setting bits on the miner, hitting a bit with a hammer a piece of metal 1/4inch long from the hammer imbedded in EE's right forearm causing infection.
EE was helping make a belt splice. EE ran hand across the belt splice at the same time EE's coworker struck the splice with a 5lb hammer striking EE's right index finger. This resulted in a fracture and sutures. EE was treated at ER and was released with restrictions.
Employee was cutting belt with a utility knife when it slipped causing a laceration to right leg just to the side of their knee. Employee was taken to the nurse at the River View portal 2 where they received 4 sutures and was released with no restriction from their regular occupation. They returned to the mines afterward and completed the shift.
Miner was strapping supplies onto a trailer, using a small pry bar to tighten straps. The pry bar came loose and hit miner in a tooth, causing it to chip.
Miner lifted the back of the mantrip off the ground with a jack, stepped between the ride and the rib to place boards under the rear tire. The jack fell over catching the miner's leg between ride and the rib, resulting a fracture to the right leg near the ankle. The Miner was taken off work starting 2/16/24.
Employee was pulling on a 3 ton chain hoist when EE felt a pop in EE's right shoulder, EE finished EE's shift and went to see a doctor after EE's shift that put EE off of work starting 01/10/2024.
EE was hanging tin in the #2 entry. EE attempted to tear the tin using channel locks. EE's hand slipped, striking the tin and causing lacerations to EE's left hand fingers (index and middle). EE continued to work without restrictions until the follow up appointment on 12-27-23, EE was placed off work on 12-27-23.
Employee was cutting some high voltage guarding when the belt knife slipped and cut EE's leg resulting in 3 stitches. EE returned to work next shift.
Employee was changing a bottom roller on the slope belt using a chain hoist when EE's right leg felt a pain in the right calf. EE finished EE's shift but was taken off of work on 09/25/2023.
Employee hit left index finger with a hammer while hanging a curtain, resulting in employee having 2 stitches in the finger.
Employee was taking a fire suppression fitting apart when the pipe wrench hit employee in the mouth causing a tooth to be broken. Employee did not miss any work.
Employee was splicing a roof bolter cable when EE cut EE's right thigh with a belt knife requiring 4 stitches. EE did not miss any work and continued doing EE's normal job.
Employee was helping splice a cable when EE cut EE's left leg with a belt knife requiring six stitches. EE returned to full duty and did not miss any work.
Employee was splicing the unit belt when employee's belt knife went through the belt cutting right upper leg resulting in 3 stitches.
Employee was cutting a piece of clear curtain to hang up. The knife slipped and EE cut left little finger requiring stitches.
Employee was raising a head roller with a pipe wrench and it slipped off causing EE to fall against the rib resulting in EE's lower back being hurt. EE continued to work until 07/14/2022 when EE went off work for surgery.
Employee was trying to break a concrete block with an ax. When EE swung the ax EE missed the block and struck their right index finger resulting in a fracture.
While setting a miner bit, a piece of metal flew between the employees safety glasses and EE's nose striking EE in the right eye. Surgery was required to remove the metal.
While rebolting a panel enclosure box to a shuttle car, the employee pinched the end of left middle finger requiring stitches.
Employee was swinging a hammer to knock out a miner bit. The hammer glanced off of the bit and struck left hand. This resulted in a fracture (chip) to the thumb. Note(employee was released for work but was placed on quarantine the same day as a contact of a positive employee)
Employee was trimming the skirt rubber on a tailpiece when the knife slipped. Employee cut right thigh requiring stitches.
Citation No. 9534971 was issued during a Part 50 Audit regarding this injury. The employee was on their knees making a belt splice. A piece of the hammer they were using flew off striking them on the right inner thigh.
Employee strained a shoulder using an axe to cut bottom on a beltline. EE continued to work through 6/19/20. At that time they elected to self exclude themselves from work going on furlough due to the Covid 19 Pandemic . EE remained on furlough until the mine fully reopened on 7/27/20 at which time they began to miss work.
EE was cutting a plastic ventilation curtain in the face area when EE slipped on a piece of rock, causing EE to cut right palm (close to the thumb). It took 4 stitches to close the wound.
Employee was going to install a new directional lifeline cone. EE used belt knife to help pry the cone open. In the process EE cut left thigh. The cut required stitches.
Citation No. 9534984 was issued during a Part 50 Audit with regard to this injury. The employee was trying to remove a piece of mine curtain from a belt transfer point by cutting the curtain with a belt knife. The curtain moved and caused EE to cut left hand. Later in January EE was on restricted duty due to complications.
Employee was using a lifting jack to spread open a shuttle car batwing. In the process they strained groin. Employee started missing work December 16, 2019.
Employee was shoveling the 2nd 54 north belt line when left hand slipped off of the shovel causing EE's thumb to come in contact with the bottom roller frame resulting in a fracture of the left thumb.
Employee was using a pry bar to move a waterline out of the roadway along a beltline. In doing so EE felt a sharp pain in the groin. EE started missing work on October 1st, 2019 in order to have surgery for a hernia repair.
Employee was removing miner bits with two hammers. EE taped up the heads of the hammers when striking together. When EE did hit them part of the claw split off and entered into the left arm. EE was seen at a Hospital and they could not get it out. EE had Surgery and started missing on 5/20/2019
Employee was striking a roll pin with a hammer as they were attempting to align belt framing. A piece of metal from the pin flew off and struck ee in the left forearm. Minor surgery (2 stitches) was attempted to remove the metal.
