A maintenance crew was working on separator rotor cage. While lifting it with steel chokers, one of the steel chokers failed. Consequently, the other choker broke causing the cage to drop approximately 3 feet. As the cage fell, a maintenance repair got EE's fingers between the cage and the fan shroud where EE's hand was sitting, causing severe lacerations to 3 fingers
