Employee stated he was cutting a piece of dust hose with his pocket knife. The knife slipped out of the hose and cut his right thumb, Employee left work and went to ER where he received 3 stiches to close the wound, he returned to work his next shift.

EE was shoveling at 1 Left Section tailpiece. He stated he was in bent over position facing inby next to belt line shoveling when a rock bounced off belt & struck top of his hardhat. There was damage evident to hardhat. He'd been cautioned prior to working in area concerning rocks bouncing off belt line as feeder cleared. Addendum: Absenteeism not due to any injuries rec'd @ mine.
Employee stated he was using a utility knife to open a bucket of plaster. The knife slipped cutting his right thumb that required 4 sutures as per the medical he received 10/17/06.
INVESTIGATION REVEALED EMPLOYEE WAS ATTEMPTING TO CUT A SECTION OF SUCTION HOSE WITH A UTILITY KNIFE WHEN THE KNIFE SLIPPED AND CUT HIS LEFT INDEX FINGER. STITCHES REQUIRED.
EE stated he was attempting to get a large piece of rock off the 222 miner with the slate bar, when the bar slipped stricking his right ring finger against a metal stob on the rub rail.
Investigation revealed employee was cutting knotches in belt to mark bad places. The employee struck his left index finger with the knife causing a laceration.
Employee stated that he was busting on a large rock with an 80 lb hammer, when a piece of the rock broke off and the sharp edge on the rock struck him on the side of his right hand, employee said he was not wearing his gloves.

EMPLOYEE WAS WORKING IN SURFACE SHOP MAKING REPAIRS TO A DBT 488 SCOOP, HE WAS UNDER SCOOP HELPING TO INSTALL A PUMP ON THE MOTOR. ANOTHER EMPLOYEE WAS ON TOP OF SCOOP PRYING MOTOR WITH A BAR. OTHER EMPLOYEE LOST GRIP WITH THE BAR AND IT FELL STRIKING INJURED EMPLOYEE UNDER HIS LEFT EYELID
UPON INVESTIGATION THE EMPLOYEE STATED HE WAS CUTTING A PIECE OF BELT RUBBER TO MAKE A SPLICE. DURING THE PROCESS HE DECIDED TO CHANGE POSITION & WHILE DOING SO HIS FOOT BECAME TANGLED IN A PIECE OF STRING & HE TRIPPED. WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO CATCH HIMSELF HE STRUCK HIS LT. LG WITH THE OPEN KNIFE.
WAS UNDER SCOOP TIGHTENING FITTINGS ON PUMP. I WAS LAYING ON MY LEFT SIDE PUSHING ON WRENCH WITH MY RIGHT ARM AND FELT SOMETHING POP IN MY LEFT SHOULDER.
EE WAS TIGHTENING BOLTS ON SPEED REDUCER OF 356 COAL HAULER WHEN SOCKET SLIPPED OFF CAUSING HIM TO STRIKE RT. INDEX FINGER AGAINST SIDE OF HAULER FRAME.
EE STATED HE WAS USING A SLATE BAR TO REMOVE THE OPERATOR SIDE FINAL DRIVE UNIT FROM THE EMCIO CONTINUOUS MINER. THE WEIGHT OF THE UNIT MOVED ON THE BAR CAUSING IT TO DROP & MASHED HIS FINGER BETWEEN THE BAR & THE FRAME OF THE MACHINE.
