THE INJURED WAS HELPING OPEN A PREVIOUSLY MINED HOLE THAT HAD ACCIDENTLY BEEN PLUGGED. THE METHANE BUILDUP AT THE ENTRANCE IGNITED WHEN A SMALL HOLE WAS OPENED AND THE GAS WAS BLOWN DOWN WIND TO THE INERT GAS BURNER CAUSING FIRST AND SECONDDEGREE BURNS TO THE INJURED'S FACE, ARMS, AND HANDS. FIRE BURNED OUT IN LESS THAN 60 SECONDS.
