Showing 50 of 55Employee was making the turn out of the belt line when EE's shuttle car struck the inby rib causing a chunk of the rib to roll off onto EE's car and cab. The rib contacted the employee on EE's left arm and left knee resulting in 2 lacerations. EE received (8) sutures in EE's arm and (15) sutures in EE's knee.
Employee inadvertently contacted the corner of the rib with the mast of the mini-trac causing a large chunk of coal to fall, striking the employee in the right hand. The employee sustained fractures and lacerations to EE's right hand. EE began missing work on 08/04/2025.
The injured miner was struck in the right ankle by a shuttle car trailing cable as it was being wound onto the cable reel resulting in a fractured ankle.
While changing out belt on the 1st SE, EE was reaching into the diesel scoop bucket to re-attach the belt and asked the operator of the scoop to lower the bucket. Unaware that the foot was under the bucket, EE's foot was pinned to the mine floor resulting in a fracture to the left foot. EE began missing work on 4/30/24.
EE tripped/fell while dropping cable/putting ropes on the lo-trac during power move. EE's left hand/arm landed on the tire of the lo-trac. The operator did not see EE fall and trammed through the intersection which caused EE's hand to become lodged in between the tire and fender. No fractures. EE was treated for Compartment Syndrome. EE began missing work on 12/15/22.
During a power move on 3rd shift, EE was attempting to reel up the slack pile on a shuttle car by manually actuating the reel valve. The cable started reeling up quickly and struck EE in the left forearm. X-rays revealed (2) fractures in the forearm. EE began missing work on 12/5/2022.
EE was standing #4 entry on Unit #3 beside the right middle car anchor when the car cable hung from the mine roof was pulled down by the car, striking EE in the left rib cage and back, knocking EE to the ground. EE began missing work on 11/23/22 for a strained lower back.
EE was pulling supplies into the mine with a supply tractor along the Main NE Haul Rd at xc 60 and unknowingly got too close to the overhanging discharge waterline. EE hit head on a waterline coupler causing a small laceration. (1) staple was required to close the wound.
EE was backing a battery scoop into a crosscut in order to clean out some mud in an intersection when a belt rail that was lying under the mud against the pillar popped up as the back tire ran over it. The rail entered the cab compartment of the scoop striking EE in left side and lower back. The injury resulted in a muscle strain along with cuts/contusions to EE's back.
Employee was cleaning future seal construction area with a scoop. As employee was pushing gob in the old beltline, the bucket unintentionally caught a section of old waterline that the operator was not aware of. As employee continued pushing the gob the waterline broke and came up striking the operator in the back of the head causing a hairline fracture to skull.
A belt mechanic was changing out a top roller when the belt unexpectedly started and put tension on the come-a-long being used to raise the belt. The come-a-long got wrapped around the injured miners hand causing lacerations to EE's right hand and thumb, and a fracture to EE's index finger.
As the 16 person mantrip was leaving the unit, it turned left to go outby. Employee was sitting on the left side of the ride and had their left hand on the outside of the frame. The ride struck the coal rib and smashed employee's left hand. Employee suffered two broken bones.
When traveling to the unit on a golf cart, employee went over a hill and noticed a getman broke down in the road. EE could not stop quick enough and had to swerve to miss it. Employee fell off golf cart and strained left shoulder.
The employee hit a bump while operating a shuttle car and chipped employee's upper left lateral incisor.
While riding in a man trip, the trip moved over to pass parked supply trailers. In doing so it caused employee to hit his left leg on the trip causing a laceration which had to be closed with sutures.
Employee was winding the rope back on the spool after pulling on conveyor belt on a fresh belt extension. While he was in the process the scoop moved forward and his left foot was caught under the scoop bucket. This resulted in a fracture in his left foot.
The employee was traveling outby in his shuttle car in #8 entry. He over corrected his steering and his cab was about to go into the rib. When this happened he had a reflex, or an unconscious motion, to catch himself against the rib. When he stuck his arm out of the car it got caught between the canopy post and the rib.
The LHD mucker entered into a dip while operating down the slope. This action caused the employee to be jolted forward. On 03/20/2013, employee had Anterior Cervical Discectomy with fusion on his neck performed.
During a unit move the mechanic was repair a miner cable. As he was re-installing the receptacle on the cable the unit low trac was pulling slack on another cable. As the low trac went by the mechanic the operator didn't see him and the low trac ran over his foot.
Employee was turning around in shuttle car to head back to the miner after dumping his shuttle car at the feeder. When he was turning around he twisted his left knee.
While riding in the personnel van from the prep plant to the bath house, the driver of the van applied to brakes and employee fell forward and hit his face on the dashboard and windshield. This caused a laceration under his left eye. First aid was applied and he started to travel home. On the way home he stopped at the ER and was told he had a hair line fracture in his cheek bone.
The operator placed his right hand on the outer edge of his shuttle car canopy as he was tramming from #3 entry toward the feeder. His hand was caught between the rib and canopy causing a fracture and lacerations to his fingers which were closed with sutures.
EE was on a ladder aligning holes, he had his right arm resting on the top of the arch, forks were lowered and EE right arm was pinned between forks and top of the steel arch.
EE was getting out of the cab of #80 scoop and made contact with a sharp edge on the frame. This caused a laceration on his right forearm which had to be closed with sutures.
EE was driving a loaded shuttle car back to the feeder as he turned into the belt entry, he struck the coal pillar. As he struck the rib he had his arm resting on the side of the cab. His upper and lower arm was pinched between the cab and rib. This caused a great deal of soft tissue injuries.
Employee was driving a 14 person Man Trip on the Main West travel road. As he was driving the trip, it hit an arch on the passenger side. This caused employee to hit the steering wheel, causing broken teeth.
EE was driving a Getman Tractor when the right front tire ran over a concrete block in the roadway. This action dropped him about 8", causing him to slam his teeth together, which broke one of his rear teeth.
Employee was pulling a rock off the continuous miner with a scoop and nylon strap. The strap failed, or slipped and recoiled back striking him under the right eye, causing a laceration which had to be closed with sutures.
EE instructed the scoop operator to pull back the stinger on the scoop. They were pulling a roll of belt into the bucket, as the stinger retracted, EE's hand was caught between the frame and stinger causing a fracture and soft tissue injury to his left hand.
EE was flagging off a damaged roof bolt West of a block curtain on the blind side of an oncoming shuttle car that was traveling to #8 entry. The car driver rang his bell before traveling through the curtain. EE tried to get to a slider in #6 entry, but the car knocked him to the ground. EE tried to roll out of the way but both legs were run over below the knee by the car.
EE was looking for bad belt splices with the belt on slow inspection mode. A loose strip of belt caught the glove on his left hand and pulled his hand and arm between the bottom belt and roller. This resulted in a fracture to his left arm and lost work days.
EE had loaded some monster roof plates on the deck of a Mini-Trac to transport them to a roof bolter. As he was traveling down an incline, the monster plates slid into the deck, causing injury to his right leg and ankle.
Injury was standing in #3 entry waiting for a scoop to remove some rock from behind the roof bolter. As He was watching the scoop a small piece of rock came from the direction of the scoop striking him above the left eye. This caused a laceration which had to be closed by sutures.
Employee was down on his knees marking up his unit map. He knew the scoop man was scooping down below him and thought he saw where he was. He felt something brush the top of his hard hat and looked up and saw it was the bottom of the scoop bucket going over him. He received a bruised right shoulder and a fracture to his right foot.
While switching seats on a shuttle car, employee felt a pain in his lower back. He worked until 04/22/2008. At that time he started missing work.
EE was riding in Unit #1 mantrip leaving the section. the mantrip started the turn at crosscut #1 on the 1A supply road when the mantrip came in contact with the corner of the rib catching His right shoulder and arm between the mantrip and corner, causing a fractures to the upper right arm.
Injured was trying to hook a rockduster to a mobile vehicle. The rockduster was bumped by the jeep in an attempt to center the hitch. As he began to install a pin into the coupler, the jeep rolled back and caught his left middle finger.
On 05/24/07, an employee was driving to a Mine Rescue Contest, when the vehicle he was driving was hit in the rear by another vehicle. The accident caused a fracture to the right hand. Another employee was also injured in the accident. He received a laceration above his eyes that required sutures to close.

A belt maint person in the process of winding a 3/8" wire rope onto a cable spool injured his left foot when his foot became caught between the mine floor and the front edge of battery powered scoop bucket. This resulted in three simple fractures to the left metatarsal bones and he was placed in a walking cast.
On Feb 23,2006 General Inside Laborer injured his L ankel while working as a section utility person on the MMU 002 working section. He was walking through the last open crosscut when a shuttle car cable drug across the entry striking him on the L foot causing a sprain to his ankle.
On 10/06/05, a general inside laborer working on a producing section was reclaiming ventilation curtain. As he was stepping across a shuttle car cable the cable tightened up catching his right foot and caused him to twist his right knee.
EMPLOYEE WAS DUMPING OFF MATERIAL FROM BREAKER FEED BELT MAGNET. A PIECE OF METAL WAS CAUGHT ON THE MAGNET AND AS HE GOT THE METAL LOOSE AN UNKNOWN OBJECT ON THE BELT STRUCK HIS LEFT LITTLE FINGER. HE RECEIVED A LACERATION TO THE LEFT LITTLE FINGERS. 5 SUTURES WERE REQUIRED TO CLOSE THE WOUND & HE RETURNED TO WORK.
EE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF SPLICING A ROOF BOLTER CABLE. HE WAS SITTING ON THE MINE FLOOR WITH HIS BACK TO THE FACE AREA. A SCOOP TRAVELED DOWN THE ENTRY HE WAS SITTING IN AND STRUCK THE VICTIM IN THE BACK. HE RECIEVED CONTUSION TO HIS BACK AND SORENESS IN HIS LEGS.
EE WAS RIDING TO HIS UNIT IN A MANTRIP WHEN THE MANTRIP STRUCK A ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROAD CAUSING THE EE TO BOUNCE IN HIS SEAT & SPRAIN HIS LOWER BACK. EE DID NOT START MISSING WORK UNTIL 10/24.
EE WAS OPERATING A BATTERY, HE EXITED THE SCOOP TO HANG A CABLE AND WATERLINE WHEN THE SCOOP ROLLED FORWARD AND FRACTURED HIS FIBULA IN HIS RIGHT LEG.
EMPLOYEE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING THE SUPPLY FORKS ON A MINI TRACK WHEN A FORK SLIPPED AND CAUGHT THE EMPLOYEES FINGER BETWEEN THE FORK AND THE MOUNTING FRAME.
EE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING A PERMANENT VENTILATION CONTROL (BRATTICE) WHEN A SHUTTLE CAR ENTERED THE CROSSCUT WHERE SHE WAS WORKING AND STRUCK HER IN THE LEFT LEG CAUSING A STRESS FRACT URE TO THE FIBULA.
EMPLOYEE WAS STANDING ALONGSIDE A FLETCHER ROOF BOLTING MACHINE IN THE INTERSECTION OF #5 ENTRY IN THE LAST OPEN XCUT WHEN A SHUTTLE CAR CAME THROUGH THE WING CURTAIN AND STRUCK THE EMPLOYEES RIGHT LEG, MASHING IT BETWEEN THE SHUTTLE CAR AND BOLTING MACHINE, CAUSING A CRUSHING INJURY TO HIS RIGHT FEMUR AND KNEE CAP.
