Maintenance worker was using a grinder to cut the wear ring off Kiln Dryer (K-2). The cutting wheel got in a bind and kicked back, cut through employee's glove and lacerated EE's left hand. Injury required sutures. Employee returned to work with some restrictions on using their left hand for 6 days.

Mostrando los 8Employee was using a grinder to remove small section of the belt feed chute. He was using all required PPE & a properly maintained grinder. As the employee was cutting the metal, the 6" blade became lodged & jumped out of the employee's hands. The resulting loss of contact allowed the grinder to contact the employee's left index finger.
Employee was removing a canister-type filter from service for cleaning. He mistakenly mis-aligned the values resulting in the filter canister remining on-line when he attempted to disconnect the canister. Hot kaolin slurry (170 degree F) sprayed onto his chest, arms, neck and face producing 1st and 2nd degree burns.
Employee used a bench grinder to smooth up a weld on a clip that went on an auto sampler. While grinding, a foreign object hit his cheek, went under his safety glasses and landed in his left eye. He was smoothing it to prevent anyone from being injured on the sharp edges. Did not think to use a face shield as he was only doing a minimal amount of grinding.
BURN TO LOWER BACK TREATED AS FIRST AID, REVIEWED BY PERSONNEL PHYSICIAN.
USING MINI-GRINDER HE GOT SOME MATERIAL IN EYE.
2 EXPERIENCED & SKILLED MAINT SPECIALISTS WERE REMOVING A STATIONARY SEAL PLATE FROM A ROTARY DRYER. 1 MAN FREED THE PLATE FROM ITS RETAINING BOLT IT ROTATED ON ITS PIVOT & CAUGHT THE LEFT H AND OF THE OTHER MAN BEWEEEN SEAL PLATES THE PLATE THEN CAME INTO BRIEF CONTACT WITH THE ROTATING DRYER FUTHER INJURING HIS HAND RESULTING INMULTIPLE FRACTURES & LACERATIONS NO DAMAGE OR IM
WHILE REPAIRING THE CALCINER, HOT MATERIAL COME OUT OF THE FLOP GATE STRIKING EE ON HANDS AND BACK OF NECK.
