WHILE EE WAS GETTING INTO THE SCOOP A PIECE OF TOP ROCK & RIB COAL (2'X 10"X 6") FELL STRIKING HIM ON THE BACK OF HIS NECK AND SNAPPING HIS HEAD FORWARD.
EE HAD FINISHED DRILLING THE OUTSIDE HOLE ON THE LAST ROW OF BOLTS. HE LEANED OVER TO REMOVE THE DRILL STEELS AND A PIECE OF ROCK 20' X 12' X 16' AND A PIECE OF COAL 16' X 14' X 6' FELL STRIKI NG HIM ON THE LOWER BACK.
INJURED PERSON WAS BENT DOWN ALONG THE OUTBY RIB WATCHING A COWORKER OPERATE THE CONTINUOUS MINER. HE WAS STRUCK BY A PIECE OF FALLING BROW CONSISTING OF MIXED COAL AND BONEY. IT MEASURED 4' X 2 1/2' X 15". HE SUSTAINED A SPRAINED NECK, BACK, BRUISED SHOULDER AND CONTUSION TO RIGHT FOREARM.
