A rock splitter assistant failed to communicate clearly that EE was beginning to flip over a rock slab, the lack of communication caused the operator to keep EE's left hand in a position that did not clear the rock slab's fall path. Thus, the operator's left ring finger was clipped by the rock slab, necessitating 2 stitches and an x-ray that turned out negative.
