Operator noticed flames from engine compartment and attempted to extinguish with portable fire extinguisher. When it was empty, operator moved clear & initiated emergency response procedures. Local Fire Dept was able to extinguish fire. Fire was contained to engine compartment & likely caused from battery cable arcing to hydraulic hose at frame rail.

Plant operator was stepping down from the back of his truck while wearing his fall protection harness with his lanyard clipped to his chest strap. In the process of stepping down the pelican style snap hook contacted the edge of a skirt box causing the snap hook to flip up and chip one of the employees teeth.
