Suriname: a regulator with no web presence
The Geologisch Mijnbouwkundige Dienst sits three sentences deep on the ministry's page and has no site of its own. The Mining Decree of 1986 requires beneficial owners to be filed with it and says nothing about publishing them. Large-scale gold is two mines, Rosebel (Zijin) and Merian (Newmont); the deaths are among the porknokkers, the informal alluvial miners, on and off those companies' leases. In 2023 fifteen bodies were recovered from one collapse and the state's contribution was two days of mourning.

- The ministry's directorates page, confirming the Onderdirecteur Mijnbouw and the DGMD exist; no registers, statistics, reports or downloads.
- EITI Suriname's reports (2016 to 2023-2024, the last published January 2026): company-level payments by name, and a count of 224 licences awarded in 2020 that EITI says it could not confirm was complete, without coordinates or commodities.
- de Ware Tijd, with a working RSS search in Dutch (goudmijn, porknokker, instorting, omgekomen): each death within a day, with the district and, at the big mines, the operator.
- A register: no public cadastre, no map, no licence list; gmd.sr and its variants do not resolve.
- An accident or sanction record from any institution.
- A tax id: no public equivalent of a RUC or TIN; EITI reports by company name only.
By the press, in Dutch, within a day: de Ware Tijd and Starnieuws name the district (Brokopondo, Sipaliwini) and, for a large mine, the operator; for porknokker deaths they name the creek, because there is usually no operator to name. A death on an operator's lease is not an operator's employee death. The 2023 toll has two numbers in circulation, fifteen per the police and at least fourteen per CARICOM.
None. Suriname has no access-to-information law (it is absent from the RTI Rating's table of 144 jurisdictions), so there is no statute to file under, no deadline and no appeal body. The one lever is the EITI multi-stakeholder group, which has already asked for a public register and not received one.
Whether the 2023-2024 EITI report carries a licence table with holder names and dates. If it does, Suriname has a weak register and becomes a half-session appendix to the Guyana record; a weekly de Ware Tijd feed would add a press floor. Nothing official is expected.
