Based on investigation to date, employee suffered a personal medical event (cardiac arrest). "Per Prelim: After washing a concrete pad, a miner drowned in a two-foot-deep pool of water."
Final MSHA investigation
On April 13, 2024, at approximately 10:20 a.m., Melvin Hobgood, a 63 year-old front-end loader operator with over four years of mining experience, was found in a pool of water next to the area he had been working. The autopsy report states that Hobgood died due to drowning.
