THE VICTIM AND A CO WORKER WERE CLEANING THE BALSTED AREA AT THE TOP OF A 10-FOOT DIAMETER ORE PASS. THE COWORKER WAS WEARING FALL PROTECTION WHILE WORKING AT THE EDGE OF THE ORE PASS. THE VIC TIM WAS WORKING NEAR THE ORE PASS WITHOUT FALL PROTECTION. THE COWORKER LOST HIS FOOTING AND FELL. THE VICTIM ATTEMPTED TO CATCH HIM AND FELL INTO THE ORE PASS, A DISTANCE OF 150 FEET.
