The miner was working to repair a piece of metal by beating it flat with a hammer. While striking the metal, the hammer missed its target and the miner's right index finger was struck by the hammer. The miner was wearing gloves and all other required PPE at the time. The strike made a laceration in the finger that required 5 stitches at the local emergency room.
