Over-exertion in lifting objects

Employee was positioning a 90 pound timber in preparation for a cube that was to be unloaded and set onto the timber. As the employee was picking up one end of the timber to put it into place, employee felt a sharp pain in lower back.

Employee using a Vaclift to move stone from rollers to pallet. EE set stone on edge, on pallet. EE had stone tilted on the Vaclift, with intent to release from lift, & stand in place. Upon release, weight of stone was too great for employee to lift, and it dropped. This pinched left thumb between stone and pallet. EE suffered a laceration and broken bone on the tip of left thumb.
