Miner is off-season caretaker at mine site. He was working in shop at work bench. There were various tools on the bench, one of them a 4" angle grinder. He was attempting to clear some room on the bench and went to move the grinder. It came in contact with some other object and energized the grinder, pulling his right thumb into the guard on the grinder and cutting his thumb.
