THE EE STARTED UP THE SPOIL RAMP IN #1969 TRUCK. WHEN HE WAS APPROX. 3/4 OF THE WAY OUT OF THE PIT THE ENGINE STALLED. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE TRUCK LOST ITS STEERING CAPABILITIES AND THE RETA RDER ALSO BECAME INOPERABLE THE TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH EMERGENCY STEERING. AS THE TRUCK DESCENDED BACKWARD DOWN THE RAMP, THE OPERATOR CALLED ON THE RADIO TO STAY OUT FROM BEHIND HIS TRUCK. T

THE BACK WHEELS DROVE ONTO A LARGE ROCK ELEVATING THE BED OF THE TRUCK JUST AS THE HITACHI SHOVEL WAS SWING LOADED BUCKET TOWARD BED OF THE TRUCK. THE BUCKET STRUCK THE BED CAUSING A SUDDEN JARRING OF THE TRUCK. THE IMPACT CAUSED A WHIPLASH TYPE INJURY TO THE EMPLOYEE'S NECK.
