Monticello G4 sits in Lawrence County, Mississippi, where the Census mining category is 4.7% of county employment.

Local economic context
County figures come from the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey, 5-year pooled estimates, so the 2023 vintage covers 2019 through 2023. The Census category is 'mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction', which is broader than MSHA jurisdiction and includes oil and gas workers no mine employs. These figures describe the surrounding county, not this mine, and are not a factor in any specific incident.

January 29, 2008 MS · Metal/Non-Metal IMPOUNDMENT
Tanner Construction Co. Inc. · Accident type, without injuries

We have not had an accident/injury/illness. At the end of our sand filter system, we have a channel pipe directing the water to the silt pond. The pipe joint broke apart causing a wash on the discharge end going to the silt pond or impoundment area which has an emergency spillway.
