Martin Marietta Materials · Over-exertion in lifting objects

The injured employee (IE) was removing a five gallon bucket of oil from the bed of a pick up truck with the tailgate down and strained left shoulder. The injury has resulted in light duty restrictions and further treatment.

Employee was changing jaw dies & had his hand between a crescent wrench & a piece of angle iron. Employee asked another employee to kick the end of the wrench to break the nut free. When the employee kicked it the nut spun quick & the employee's left ring finger was smashed between the angle iron & the crescent wrench. The tip of the employee's left ring finger was amputated.

The employee was working inside of a conveyor frame on a "dead" conveyor. On his descent, he came into contact with the metal frame causing a laceration on his left ear resulting in 15 stitches

EMPLOYEE WAS CLEANING OUT A CULVERT FILLED FULL OF ROCK WITH A TAMPING BAR. WHILE PUSHING OBSTRUCTION, THE BAR SLIPPED AND HIS THUMB WAS CAUGHT BETWEEN CULVERT AND THE END OF THE POLE.
