Minnesota Paving & Materials · Struck by flying object

Employee was staged in designated safe area for blast, along with 2 other employees. When the blast was initiated, a fly rock approximately 5" x 6" x 2" struck an employee in the right hand index finger and knuckle, landing approximately 30 feet behind EE.

EE was replacing shanks on a loader bucket. EE got a bolt partially loose and it dropped out of square shank. EE held it up with hand and when EE hit it with the impact, it spun and cut EE's right hand.

EE was leaning over the undercarriage attempting to grab his lifting chain while installing the belly pans. EE was leaning directly over the lifting eye. He grabbed the his chain and was backing out away from the undercarriage when the lifting eye caused a contusion to his left chest area.
