EE was removing a broken coil spring from a jaw crusher. EE thought had released all tension on the spring, but bottom broken section was still under tension. As EE was removing spring, bottom section released smashing LT thumb.

Employee was working on tail pulley when it slipped and partially fell on left thumb. Left thumb badly swollen - clinic said ice only - no stitches - no broken bones - was given narcotic for pain.
