Policy & Procedure for cutting rock is to place the rock and move hands away before cutting. The Employee held onto the rock with his left hand when he was cutting it resulting in smashing his left thumb and breaking it. This required surgery on his thumb and he will be off work until 11/7/14.

A driver came for a load of rock and while waiting in his truck called the mine supervisor and complained of chest pains. The supervisor came to check on the driver and decided to call 911 for an ambulance. The ambulance arrived and said the driver was having a heart attack and took him to the hospital.
