Local economic context
County figures come from the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey, 5-year pooled estimates, so the 2023 vintage covers 2019 through 2023. The Census category is 'mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction', which is broader than MSHA jurisdiction and includes oil and gas workers no mine employs. These figures describe the surrounding county, not this mine, and are not a factor in any specific incident.

September 18, 2008 MS · Metal/Non-Metal maintenance man, mechanic, repair/serviceman, boilermaker, fueler, tire tech, field service tech HANDTOOLS (NONPOWERED)
Hammett Gravel Company Inc · Struck against stationary object

EE was trying to loosen a lug nut on a tire. As he put all the pressure on the socket, it slipped. His momentum caused the left side of his forehead to strike the rim of the tire. A 3/4" long gash was opened on the left side of his head, just above his eye. Continued to work with just a bandaide, until he determined he needed stitches. He received 4 stitches.
