Hammett Gravel Company Inc · Absorption of radiations, caustics, toxic and noxious substances

Employee was helping with jump starting sand pump motor with booster cables. Engine would not start. Cables were removed. Battery started smoking and exploded seconds later. Employee was struck in face by debris and battery fluid. Has left eye injury. Eye is better. Expected back at work next week.

Employee was was working with drilling crew drilling for gravel on lands adjacent to mining area. Employee attempted to lift a drill bit by hand that had fallen a few inches below the reach of the drill track bit attachment. In attempting to lift the bit, employee strained his lower back. Supervisor had gone to get a chain to attach to the bit to lift it.

Employee was operating a Caterpillar D-6rxl dozer. He hit a bump or rough spot that jarred him and caused him to whiplash hurting his lower back. He continued to work. He sought out a chiropractor on 1/25. He has continued to work everyday and the only time he has missed has been for chiropractor visits. After 3 visits he states his back is sore but is better

Employee was helping unload a hydraulic jack from the back of a service truck. He pulled the front of the jack out of the truck. Before other employee could grab other end the jack fell out of the truck with the injured employee holding one end. After 3 days of physical therapy his back is better.

EE was attempting to replace a leaking 3" water hose on the dredge. He took a hacksaw and began to try to cut the hose. He had performed this task in the past. When he cut into the hose the water/coolant was under pressure and sprayed onto his left arm causing some possible second degree burns. He went to the doctor and had some bandages applied. He was back to work the next day.

Injured employee and another employee were loading a piece of 8" pipe into the back of a truck. Injured employee's right thumb got caught between the lifting eye on the 8" pipe and the tailgate of the truck as the pipe was slid into the back of the truck. His right thumb was mashed breaking the tip of the bone in his thumb and causing the nail to come off.

Injured EE along with two other EE's was preparing to overhaul the sand pump. The plate and suction side liner are held in place by 24 bolts and nuts. According to employees it is customary to remove all the bolts and nuts from the plate and side liner then attach a chain to the plate and side liner. In most cases the plate and side liner.

EE had just begun the 2nd day of restricted duty from acc. in 2005. EE was operating the sand catching plant. The job involves opening and closing a valve periodically by using a lever which is manipulated on a horizontal plane to control flow of sand and water. EE heard something pop in his back when he moved the lever right to left. Pain in back and left leg.

EE WAS WORKING NEAR AND WITH 2 WELDERS. THEY WERE WORKING ON A TROUGH AT THE SAND PLANT. EE APPARENTLY WAS EXPOSED ACCIDENTALLY TO THE WELDING FLASH, THUS INJURING HIS EYES.

INJURED WAS HELPING INSTALL A CLUTCH ON A 671 ENGINE ON OUR DREDGE. CLUTCH WAS INSTALLED WITH AID OF HOIST AND CHAIN. AFTER CLUTCH WAS INSTALLED, WHILE THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING, EMPLOYEE REA CHED INTO TOP OF CLUTCH TO REMOVE THE CHAIN. AN EMPLOYEE NEARBY LOST HIS BALANCE AND STRUCK THE CLUTCH LEVER ENGAGING THE CLUTCH AND SEVERING THE TIP OF INJURED'S FINGER.
