Loader operator was working stockpile when they noticed flames in the engine compartment of CAT 980G Wheel Loader. Operator attempted to extinguish fire. Fire Department was called and it is presumed that they had the fire out in less than 30 minutes; Plant Manager called MSHA just in case (MSHA# 0399351). No injuries. Damage was contained to only the 980G.

EE WAS UNPLUGGING ROCK BIN AND ROCK FELL AND HITSHOULDER. AS A RESULT EE SHOULDER WAS BRUISED AND HE WAS PUT ON RESTRICTED DUTY BY DOCTOR.

EMPLOYEE HAD SECURED A CHAIN ON TAIL PULLEY OF A CONVEYER IN ORDER TO HOIST AND MOVE IT. HE WAS HOLDING THE CHAIN TO MAINTAIN TENSION ON THE HOOK. HE THEN MOTIONED THE LOADER OPERATOR TO BEGIN HOISTING. AS THE CHAIN BEGAN TO TIGHTEN, HE NEGLECTED TO REMOVE HIS HAND FROM THE CHAIN. HIS INDEX FINGER WAS SEVERED AT 1ST DIGIT BETWEEN CHAINAND GUARD.
