Employee jumped into an excavation at the end of the shift to retrieve some tools instead of using a ladder that was provided. Jumped about 4' causing a slight ankle sprain.

The miner was using a 2 lb. hammer to flatten the bolts holding a belt lacing together. When he attempted to strike a bolt, the hammer hit a bin which was above the belt, deflecting the hammer which struck the middle finger of his right hand. The miner's finger received a small laceration and fractured the bone in the finger.
